“Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up.” James 5:13 and 14
Last night after 6 days of sickness for our family, I finally had enough. I am fed up with alternating Motrin and Tylenol, and tracking Albuterol, Mucinex, Delsym, Nyquil, Dayquil, and Amoxicillian. I am soo done taking temperatures every four hours to see results of 103 and 104. I’m sick and tired of all of us being sick and tired.
Right before bed time, I turned to Daddy and said, “That’s it! Get the oil! We are praying this sickness out of this house.”
Daddy poured some oil into a little container, and we all gathered in your bedroom. I opened up each of your Bibles to James 5:13, and Parker you read the next few verses for us.
First, we anointed Kent with oil, and then we each laid hands on him, and began to pray over him. I’m telling ya boys, I felt the presence of God in that room. It was real.
Then, we anointed Parker with oil, and we laid hands on him, and began to pray over him. Kent, you giggled, but I still believe you understood the seriousness of the moment.
Then we continued and you boys anointed me and prayed over me, and then we did Daddy as well.
I want you boys to see that we can apply Scripture today and the TRUTH is still powerful and active. I want you to learn the importance of laying your hands on the sick, praying for them, and having faith to see results. I want you to know that you can go to God and that He is alive and active and interested in our lives.
Wish I wouldn’t have waited for day 6 of sickness. I’m convicted that I didn’t think to do this on day #1. But God is gracious, and patient, and I do believe the next time we encounter a time such as this, the Holy Spirit will remind me to seek the Lord in desperation as my only resort…not my last one.
